Been A While

God, it's been a while since I have been on this site... I almost forgot about it, I was cleaning up my favorites menu and I saw it, and said "Holy !@#$, My blog site!!!" So here I am posting for the first time, in almost an entire month...

Lots going on over here... Let me tell get you up to speed as to what is going on right now.

I'm working on something called Dreaming in TO. It's a Dreamweaver User Community dedicated to supporting Macromedia Dreamweaver users through personal and professional development, monthly meetings and events. We have a site online at http://www.dreaminginto.com (although right now, it's not working as I am waiting for the DNS entries to propagate through the net, should be working in 12-36 hours). So if you are a Macromedia Dreamweaver user in Toronto, check out the site in the next couple days, sign up and come out for a couple beers. Stay tuned to the site (we are in the process of getting the DiTO blog set up) and keep checking the blog for daily updates about construction and all that other stuff.

I finished my first project for Adam Web Design, called Hitchpack. Its pretty cool. Not much else going on with that really...

Finally going to get a new computer... It's pretty cool... $400 for a new system, 30GB hard drive, CDRW, 1.3ghz processor, 256mb RAM, yadda yadda yadda...

Well that's all for today... I promise to post something everyday, but don't hold me to it, as things are really crazy right now...

Later!

vodka is bad... very very bad....

Do you remember when you were young and you saw drunk people and said to yourself you would never ever be like that? Well I was one of those kids. Let me tell you a story about my weekend...

Friday night, Mallorie and I get a call from a friend of ours who lives 2 buildings over (we live in an apartment building) asking us if we want to go to a birthday party... the words "free" and "alcohol" jump out at me... I agree, thinking it would be good to get out of the house, and get smashed on someone else's tab.

We show up at the party at about 10:30, after stopping for smokes and some money for later... there are already a few people there... so we started drinking the Alex Keiths beer we brought with us... in about 15 minutes I switch to liquor and have a pina colada.... then after a vodka shot we decide that we are going to the bar....

We clean up the patio and go inside and wait for a couple people to get ready.... during this interval, I have 3 or 4 more vodka shots, and by this time, the effects of the alcohol are starting to take their toll.

We get into the car, and start driving. suddenly I (or the incredible amounts of alcohol I've just consumed) decide to open a beer and have one WHILE WE ARE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. (By the way, I'm not driving tonight, thank god. The effects of this would be disastrous.)

We stop at a donut store somewhere downtown and in order for us to use the bathroom that we so desperately require, we have to buy something (this tactic of having to buy something in order to use the bathroom is silly, and should be outlawed, it's practically extortion). At this point, I'm fucked. And I mean that in the most literal sense of the word. I can't see straight, walking up or down a set of stairs requires concentration to a level I'm not familiar with, and I had a conversation with a cab driver about some non-sensical topic while I was waiting to use the filthy 1 person bathroom.

We go upstairs, buy some donuts (which I reluctantly eat b/c I'm trying to find something that's gonna soak up all the booze in my body, and it's a double chocolate glazed donut), and then leave. We drive some more and end up at Red Square, a club downtown on Adelaide I think. We wait 15 minutes for the rest of them to arrive and then go in. I get in fine, however, Adrian (who is ridiculously intoxicated) screwed up, and first showed the bouncer his ID upside down, and then dropped it. Not getting in. Damn.

We walk around the block to Milwaukees, and we all get in there fine. I get my beer and sit down on the couch upstairs. Not 5 minutes later, I get tossed out 4by some bouncer guy b/c he catches me sleeping. Damn.

I go outside and wait for the rest of the gang to find me and sure enough, about 10 minutes later, Mallorie comes out with Nick and they get to take me back inside.

I would like to say that at this point, my stomach is flipping and moving around and I don't feel good at all. I order another beer through Nick, and the second I put my hand around it, I throw up all over Adrian's shoes. Oops. Another bouncer is right behind me. Tossed again. This time, I'm out for good. I sit outside and clear my head and I'm starting to feel a bit better, although stuff is still moving around alot and it's hard to focus on what is around me. Sound doesn't register, and trying to walk off my drunken stupor would be a really bad joke at this point. Besides, sitting on this ledge, staring at my puke covered shoes is just fine with me.

A few minutes later, Adrian threw up, according to Mallorie. We walked quickly to the car and drove somewhere. Somehow, a bottle of water ended up in my hands, although I'm still not clear on where it came from. I take a drink and it actually doesn't sear across my taste buds. Hmmm, tastes good. This is the best tasting thing I've had all night...

All of a sudden, another wave of nausea comes over me, and I shove open the door, hang my face out and throw up ALL OVER THE PLACE. My eyes water quickly because of the shock to my system and because of the horrible taste in my mouth.

We finally get home at 3:30 in the morning, Adrian is still sick, when I stumble out of the car and almost fall down... I get upstairs somehow and take a bath. For the first time, in 7 hours, I eat something. Burnt toast and a hot cup of tea. I pass out from sheer exhaustion and drunkeness sometime after 4:00am.

Never again, will I mix beer and liquor. I swear.

Macromedia MX 2004 Launch

Wow... what a great success that was!

The first half of the launch took place at the OISE building at 252 Bloor St W in Toronto, Ontario. We (Mallorie and I) came as members of FlashinTO, a Macromedia Flash User Community based in Toronto. All the presentations on Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash were very well rounded. The most incredible thing about this new software, called Studio MX 2004, is the level of integration between the three tools. Simple graphics editing can now be done within the Dreamweaver environment, without ever having to open the Fireworks software.

Another interesting thing that I learned was the increased support for CSS. Everything that can be changed with CSS, is now no longer an option, it is a standard. CSS is popular right now, as it can be used to change everything from font tags, to table border styles by simply editing one file as opposed to hundreds of HTML pages.

(Over 150 User Groups across the world participated in this first attempt at a global software launch).

The 2nd part of the night consisted of an ill-fated bus ride in the city (we ended driving right by the place and having to go around the block to find the place again), to the Mockingbird at 580 King St. W. We had a few drinks, shot some pool, and the watched a presentation by Colin Moock on the new Flash MX 2004 Professional software.

I tell you, what a piece of software that is. I lost track of all the new software improvements, including small text support, and the History tool. Finally, a history tool in Flash!!!

Thanks to Macromedia for footing the bill for all the beer, food, t-shirts and hats (which I almost didn't get). It was a good night, and I am looking forward to the next FlashinTO meeting!!!

First Day Of September

I used to dread this day. First day of school is tomorrow. I'm actually kinda looking forward to it. I'm not going to school tomorrow. Tomorrow is a very big day for getting a part time job. Alot of IT companies hire in early September... time to crank out those resumes again.

Well, as short as this blog will be, there is a reason for it. I have to clean my kitchen. There are some dishes to do and I still have to call the bank, and do some work in flash for my website before I retire for the evening.

Ciao suckers!!!

I QUIT SMOKING!!!

i will rain down upon you a horror the likes of which man has not seen before... the heavens will open and a downpour of terror will overtake you and cause you to choke on your own tongue... you will roll around in your own mire and feces like a dog infected with the poison of the world... you will die a most violent death as your mind turns red and explodes with all the force of a man with bottled rage and anger and madness.

you will die. and I will be the killer.

i've quit smoking. the hell that I am willingly putting myself through is actually quite incredible... i haven't had a smoke in 2 days, which is resulting in my increased edginess and overall crappy attitude... not to mention the total lack of patience and sympathy I have for people who are calling me today with their phone problems... my hands are shaking and i feel tense and frustrated. i eat like a pig because supposedly when you quit smoking, you get your appetite (and your taste-buds) back, which would explain why I can now eat a whole medium pizza, a bagel with cream cheese, one of them breakfast bar thingies, 2 full glasses of milk and a cup of tea... jesus... i haven't eaten like that since I was 16 years old....

i'm in one of those moods that if someone pushes my buttons the wrong way, im gonna freak out and kill someone... i swear... it's gonna be so ugly...

the urge to ask someone here for a cigarette is so strong, and I feel like im gonna cry if I don't have a cigarette soon... thank god i have no breaks during my shift today or tomorrow, that might lessen the urge to have a smoke... i just hope that I don't see anyone i recognize out there tomorrow having a smoke, i'll break down and have one for sure... i cannot have another smoke... I MUST NOT!!!!!!! MUST NOT!!!!!!!! ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!

i can't believe im working on a sunday... i hate waking up early on sunday, especially to work... it's murder waking up at 8:00am... problem is, I do it everyday to hear that stupid phone beep in my ear every 5 min.... ah the joy of working in Customer Service!!! :)

no job

found this really cool flash-based cartoon on the web... i feel that flash based cartoons are the wave of the future, mainly because they are fast to download (even on an 56k dialup connection), the software to make them is coming down in price and it's easy to learn...

in the future, we will no longer have to watch cartoons on the tube. instead we will have pocket pcs with flash player software that will download the newest cartoons (based on preferences we set with a cartoon provider) and then watch them on our handheld devices. how cool would that be?!?!?!?!?!?!?

speaking of flash, i have started creating the flash animations for my personal portfolio site, however, i need to come up with about 10 - 15 different ones... one of them has a fish in it that does... well i'm not sure what it's gonna do, but it's gonna be cool man!!!

i'll post the link here when it's up... i have yet to get a domain name setup (although i have one in mind) and choose a hosting plan with a web hosting company...

peace out rabbit!
